How It Works:

The assembled banner and associated 120ft tow rope is laid out on the ground, downwind of two 3 metre poles set into the ground roughly 3 metres apart. The tow-rope is looped between these poles.

An aeroplane trailing a grapple hook attached to the end of a cable is flown over the poles at very low level. The grapple hook passes through the rope hoop. The aeroplane then starts to climb and the banner is peeled from the ground. The banner is towed at slow speed and at a height over the target so that everybody can read it. On return to the airfield, the banner and all ropes and hooks are dropped before landing.
